Our Story

Aidan started Yellow Tail Wood Studio after moving to Canada from Tasmania in 2010. He’d spent years working in graphic design, photography, and residential lighting — and that eye for how light and materials interact shows up in build, from a single custom bench to a full sauna.

Based in Courtenay on Vancouver Island, the studio designs and builds custom saunas alongside architectural finishing carpentry: trim, cabinetry installs, feature walls, and the detail work that makes a room feel finished.

What started as a side project is now a full-time studio. No two jobs look the same, and that’s the point: each one gets built around the space and the person using it. Built to be used, made to be kept.
